We were delighted to welcome the RUH Forever Friends events team and ‘Ted’ to our rehearsal this weekend.
We were able to show them some of the repertoire we are planning for our Operatic Gala on the 1st of April in Chippenham. Our 35 minute medley of Carmen was great fun to sing and we have decided to add a couple of numbers that we thought should be there – especially the beautiful tenor solo – The Flower Song and The Gypsy Card Trio. Other choruses will include The Humming Chorus from Madama Butterfly, The Chorus of The Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco and The Brindisi from La Traviata. We are also delighted that our chorus of young voices will number nearly 30 and we are currently confirming the other duets and ensembles to be included in the programme. The soloists from Opera Sulis who will be taking part are as follows;
Sopranos – Susan Coates, Rachel Allard, Emily Beer
Mezzo Sopranos – Sophie Meehan, Rebecca Sharp, Charlotte Bennett
Tenors – Guy Edwards, Phil Styles, Carlos Alonso
Bass / Baritones- Graham Case, Andrew Hopwood, William Tyson Smith
The venue of The Central Methodist Church, Monkton Hill, Chippenham will provide a comfortable backdrop for the concert, complete with Grand Piano played by our accompanist Nick Goodall and the choir stalls filled to the brim with young voices and conducted by Chris Totney.
It should be a wonderful event in aid of a very worthy cause and close to the heart of Susan our Artistic Director and William one of our Baritones who have both recently lost loved ones to cancer. Tickets are selling already so don’t miss out and book soon.
